Being a student of a Nigerian University is quite hectic and stressful and even more burdensome for a fresher. Truth must be told, Not everyone succeeds in the University. Tales have been told about bright students who where academic juggernauts in their secondary school, but lost the momentum when faced with challenges the University usually hands out to people who are ready to take the risk. What are these challenges faced by students?
First, You write the Jamb ( Joint admissions matriculation board) Examination. You have the knowledge that about a million people are writing with you. Then you score high in the exam. Your school's post utme ( Post Unified tertiary examination) form comes out, You purchase it no matter the cost. The d' day comes, you write the examination. You become anxious and worried if you'll get admission. Word comes out that the first list has been released. You check and see your name bodly written. Then you pay for a lot of costs like school fees, hostel fees etc. With faith you usher in a new stage in your life.
University life is not what you expected. A lot of protocols and systems that you may not be familiar with. Waking Up for lectures at about 6.00 AM. Either to meet up to write your name in the attendance or just secure a seat at the front. Meanwhile the attendance is 10%-20% of your total mark for that particular course. Then those lecturers with hearts of stones to that course rep or student official that always want to extort you down to your last penny. the cycle continues.......
Although these obstacles stand in the way of students, freshers and oldies alike, There are ways to bypass or circumvent these hurdles. You as a student trying to savage the damaged educational system in Nigeria, You need help......Lots of it. There are veterans of the struggle, that have passed through hell and came out victorious. Finding these legends should be tough but.......
